BENJAMIN, THE SILENT KILLER
In Animal Farm, I am greatly disappointed with one particular character, benjamin the donkey! why?? because i believe if Benjamin would have opened his mouth in the beginning, Animal Farm wouldn't have taken place and the rest of the animals wouldn't have been manipulated and cheated.
Benjamin always claimed "donkeys live long", which means he has seen everything and he knows what will happen and so on. yet, he chose to keep quiet and watch the show. what was the point he finally wanted to help Boxer and rescue him? It was all too late. He knows to read well, he knows very well that the pigs were changing the 7 commandments according to their benefits, yet he was silent. Why??
He has friends in the farm, the animals trust him, if he would have at least told them that the pigs are cheating, perhaps the finale would have been different. Boxer would have retired and enjoyed his few last years.
Benjamin could have taken over the pigs if he was stronger in mind, because physically he is.the pigs would have feared him because they are smaller and they would not dare to change the rules, because Benjamin is "educated".
It is a shame for Benjamin, because yes, he would live long, to watch all his peers die in vain, cheated live long, and their freedom being deprived generation after generation.
Benjamin could have made a difference, and saved his friends' lives...HE COULD HAVE....

:) Your frustration & dissapointment on the character "benjamin" is acceptable. Because moz of the readers are rather...feeling very angry on it. But that is where, Orwell makes his magic. If we could have the question.."if only benjamin opened his mouth and revamped a change...things wud hav been different!"
ReplyDeleteOrwell's characters are always unique...and not a showcasing items...but also maked ppl react and stimulate.
